Yeah, instead of the "Electric Slide", we've got the "Finger Stuck in Electric Outlet".

I ever the opportunity arises, I thing we should avoid both dancing in the same room at once, we make take down innocent bystanders. Or get co-opted by the military as a joint WMD.

When you mentioned us dancing in the same room I immediately pictured the party scene in AtS where Angel and Wesley "danced". I should think that image should be incentive enough.

the electric slide
The only time I ever did it was when I was a little kid and tried to fish some bread out of the toaster with a fork.

LOL "Best Clothing Style:...all for the comfort" made me think of Gilda Radner's immortal line: "I base my fashion sense on what doesn't itch."

what doesn't itch
Why, I think that's a fine way to choose your clothing!

So it's a safe assumption you're not a fan of the polar bear swim? *g*

polar bears
Those people are nuts, even by nuts standards. Every January 2nd they must have to go in for a testical retreaval operation, at which time they need to have their head shrunk as much as their other body parts did.

In other words ... no.

Do you know your ancestry (surnames) enough to know where your Cherokee roots are?

I also have Cherokee ancestry and have been going NUTS trying to prove it because my family moved around so darn much, they're impossible to find on the census.

ancestry
I believe some family members are doing the roots thing. I'm very much interested in finding out, but I'm also that fatal combination of lazy and busy, so I've never dug into it very much. The only thing I know for sure is that my grandmother, who was half Cherokee and half Irish, went by the name Alice Moore, and that her ancestors were of the group that stayed in the Appalachian hills, rather than be moved west by the US government.

Re: ancestry
Yeah, my mom's trying to do ours, and got really far on everything else, but hit a dead end with the cherokee part, and could only go back so far, or couldn't find the right person or something. She has the Dawes records and stuff but somethign doesn't match right or something.. idk.

Re: ancestry
Well, the Cherokees who got forcibly moved had to leave a lot of their stuff behind, including what little they kept in the way of written records. The ones who stayed behind probably tried to cover up their tracks to keep from being relocated themselves, so an awfully lot of geneology information is probably lost forever.

Re: ancestry
Yeah, that was our problem - multiple name changes and lost records.

Re: ancestry
It's worse for me, because I've got a roadblock on the white man side, too. The story goes that one of my ancestors, a Revolutionary War veteran, killed a man in North Carolina and then fled to northeastern Tennessee to avoid prosecution. I'd imagine he took steps to prevent a paper trail that could follow him to his new home!

Re: ancestry
I wonder if mine were, too. My great-great-great grandmother's name was Hannah Bennett. The census at the time wasn't detailed enough to list if she was Cherokee, but several cousins all seem to say the same thing; that she was a Cherokee medicine woman.

Since they moved around SO much, it's been impossible to find them in any census beyond 1860!

Re: ancestry
Nobody appreciates records at the time they're written down, and so things get caught in that gray time between when the records are legally required and when they become historicaly significant. It's sad, how much history gets thrown into the trash -- or, as in our late 1800's courthouse fire, how much gets lost accidentally.
