work in progress meme

a meme stolen from the madly typing darsynia:

"If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or NaNoWriMo or what have you, post exactly one sentence (or more) from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favorite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre)if you like, but don't mention anything else -- this is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s)."

Okay, cool. Well, I have only one work in progress, and it came to me almost whole and ready to be set down today, while I was mowing the lawn. I'll give you only one line of dialogue to whet your appetite:

Giles stared off into the distance, as if trying to picture the scene. "So ... that's when you smashed the wine bottle over The Immortal's head?"

Mac maniac
Same computer *I* have! Only the lid's broken on mine and it's now hooked up to a monitor, so it's been demoted to a desktop. *sigh*

Ooh. I can't wait.

But not even for excellent lines like this will I mow a lawn. Uh unh! Not even for abandoned shoes will I mow a lawn.

I like it, except on really hot days. It's one of the few times I'm doing a job that doesn't involve a lot of thought processes, so I can plot with abandon. I like long walks for the same reason.

Okay, I'm intrigued...where's the rest??
Aug. 19th, 2006 04:46 pm (UTC)
It's ...

In progress.

Bwah hahahaha!!!

Ohhhh, that sounds very interesting. When do we get the rest of this?

I'd meant to finish the first draft last night and get it sent to my beta today, but I ran into several interruptions along the way. I'm hoping by the end of next weekend it'll be posted, depending on how fast my beta gets it back to me.

nothing hurt much?
So, you've been reading my columns, haven't you ...? *grin* No, nothing hurt this time, although I noticed the mower's pull cord is fraying. That will surely lead to some manner of personal injury.

By the time I was done mowing, I had the entire story worked out in my head. It's going to be very, very good -- or not.

quality work
Well, sometimes I don't get to choose these things, but I try.

I see four possibilities to that:-

Buffy came to her senses and realised that she was dating another bad boy.

Or more likely:-

Dawn responded when asked if she'd be interested in him.
Xander realised what an utter scumbag was dating his friend.
He grabbed Faith's ass and she did him.

Re: Intriguing
Hm ... it's sort of a combination of numbers 1 and 2.

Re: Intriguing
Ah, cool.

I want to read it already! :)

Down -- down! It's coming!
Aug. 19th, 2006 08:37 am (UTC)
Ohhh , now I want to see this in context!
Aug. 19th, 2006 05:00 pm (UTC)
I thought people would find the line intriguing, but I had no idea ...
Aug. 19th, 2006 04:50 pm (UTC)
Don't know who is going to do the smashing, but I am applauding them already!!
Aug. 19th, 2006 05:09 pm (UTC)
The who will become obvious very early in the story, but maybe how it happens will be the more interesting part.

Ok, now I'm anxious for more.

(Should I be mean and do this one? Since I rarely finish anything, a lot of stuff is "in progress"....)
Aug. 22nd, 2006 07:37 am (UTC)
sure, do it!
Well, you simply have to discipline yourself to finish! Just like I discipline myself to eat right and exercise ... um, only hopefully you'll do better. :-)

I thought that was a pretty good teaser for my story. It's one of the first lines that came to me as I was circling the yard, listening to the roar of the lawnmower. Ironically, my original idea involved certain characters getting into a big fight scene, but I don't end up showing the fight. Go figure.
