You know how you're all ready to get sympathy with your sob story, only to find out somebody's got an even better one? I hate that.

Well, I had the WORST WEEKEND EVER (or so I was planning to embellish it), part of which was spent trying to find the leak in my roof. I only get a full weekend off once every six weeks, so that's not how I wanted to spend it, but hey -- it stopped raining, and who knows for how long? We got called to a house fire Friday, Saturday I was on the roof, yada yada *sob* yada, kids left to do their own thing Saturday night instead of going to the movies with me, yada yada I'm such a sad sack yada, mowed the overgrown lawn but the mower's acting up, yada. Then I get called to go into work early Sunday, thus ending my rotten weekend but giving me another thing to bitch about.

I walk into work, where they're right in the middle of a murder investigation; this gal walked into the lobby and announced she'd just killed her boyfriend. With a hammer. Apparently there might be some connection to a car that was torched. I might add that I was just bragging to a friend in England about how relatively low our crime rate is.

So not only a rotten weekend, but also a good sob story shot right in the ass. I mean, hey -- nobody beat *me* to death with a hammer. So, I have a sinus headache? So what! There are kids starving in Africa.

Okay, I'm done now. I'm going to go back to acting cheerful; just needed to vent without taking a tool to anyone.

Like Bill, I feel your pain
Ach! Poor Mark. Somehow virtual huggles don't seem enough. I wish they were, though. *slinks away*

virtual huggles
Ah, that's okay, it really is the thought that counts. Besides, if I was going to send you a plane ticket for the needed real hugs, I'd make it for late fall and early winter, when I generally need support the most.
Don't know if you'd want to be around me then, though!

Thanks for the pat. :-)

Hey, this is the perfect venue to vent cause you're among friends.

HUGS you
May. 23rd, 2006 07:16 am (UTC)
That's exactly right! We all need to vent from time to time, even over stuff others might think trivial, and it's nice to have a sympathetic ear (uh, eye?) when that time comes.

GO STARVING KIDS IN AFRICA! Theyre the reason I hate complaining.
May. 23rd, 2006 07:11 am (UTC)
Yeah, starving kids in Africa are great. But at the fire station last night, we watched a training program about severe burn patients, and what they went through while being treated (It's called "To Hell and Back" for a reason).

Don't need a reason to stop complaining after seeing that. Also don't need a reason to put on my protective clothing.
May. 22nd, 2006 03:27 pm (UTC)
You can still vent here sweetie and we'll all send you virtual hugs and chocolate! :D
May. 23rd, 2006 07:13 am (UTC)
Ooh -- chocolate. Actually, I suppose I prefer the hugs, because chocolate's easier to get.

do tell about this hammer murderer.
May. 23rd, 2006 07:18 am (UTC)
I posted my article about the hammer murderer, just for you. :-) There may be more to it, though. I get the impression, from the little extra I know that's not public yet, that the fellow was something of a -- how do I put it -- shithead. Not that he deserved to get beaten to death, necessarily.

I must say I was quite surpised, but then I heard Shady Acers and it all made sense. Sorry about the movies. I would've gone Saturday but I thought you guys went that morning! Poor poppy!
May. 23rd, 2006 07:20 am (UTC)
What, I couldn't have movie-gone with one daughter in the morning and one in the afternoon? :-)
Don't worry, it's far from the worst weekend I've ever had. I suspect all that recently rain, cold and general gloominess was finally getting to me.
May. 22nd, 2006 11:50 pm (UTC)
I'm sorry to hear about your horrible weekend. Venting is good. *hugs*
May. 23rd, 2006 07:21 am (UTC)
Thanks much ... I'm thinking of getting a punching bag. I could hit it, or just yell at it, or what the heck -- even talk to it. It's not like it would get bored. ;->
May. 23rd, 2006 12:28 am (UTC)
If it'll make you feel better, I could totally beat you with a hammer?

That's okay though...doesn't matter if there will always be people who are "worse off" than you, everyone is entitled to a little bit of bitching time. And by the sounds of your weekend, I'd be horrible grumpy as well.
May. 23rd, 2006 07:24 am (UTC)
If you had a hammer ...
I think that would help you more than it would help me ...

Yeah, the venting was needed. It wasn't one thing so much as the combination that started getting to me ...
Also -- and I don't know how this is going to sound -- I tend to act all smiley and try to get people to laugh even when I'm in a crappy mood, under the theory that when you laugh the world laughs with you, and when you cry you can hear a pin drop.

I suppose that kind of thing would start to build up, after awhile.

Sometimes relativity is just evil. *g* If you had a bad weekend, you had a bad weekend - no better place to gripe about it than in your journal, among your friends.

(I know what you mean, though. If I complain about, for example, not being able to afford a new laptop computer, I feel compelled to add something like, "at least I have a roof over my head and food on the table - too many people don't". Which is certainly true, but doesn't make me wish any less for that laptop!)
May. 23rd, 2006 07:28 am (UTC)
the theory of relativity
Never was a more truthful thing said. If a guy's got a sore toe (mine just started yesterday), he should be able to vent about that a little, even if he knows someone who has no foot. But, just as you'd qualify your comment, I would tend to add that at least a good soak in epsom salts will make things better. :->

On a related note, I really wish I had a new laptop. But at least I have food on the table.

I need to cut out the cookies and chocolate, if I'm to fit into my Class A uniform for the parade in June.

The French maid would be helpful, though. :->

yah, that was weird hearing about that lady... like wtf? in OUR county?!
May. 24th, 2006 04:48 am (UTC)
Not as uncommon as we'd like to think. There was the guy who was shot in the fast food parking lot in Kendallville, the woman who was stuffed into a barrell east of Brimfield, and of course the elderly lady murdered by burglars on Baseline Road ... we have that crap, just not nearly as often. Of course, I'm in a position in my job to see how many on-the-edge weirdos and dickheads come out after dark ... the average person never hears about most of that stuff, because it comes close to murder without actually getting there.

LMAO again! If you can't tell I'm trying to catch up now that my thumb is allowing it. In fact the first night I posted to you I was in so much pain its amazing I did all that anyway. LOL Sorry, I will pet you if you need me too, but I do understand the kids thing (have a son about to turn 14 and one who is 7 and a half), not big on the murder thing since i have never murdered anyone, only dreamed of it. *snerk* Roof leakage has been happening for a year now, but only when it rains so hard you think your roof is going to blow off. Now, where I live thats about 3 months out of hte year. Lawn hasn't been mowed in 2 weeks which means it's extremely high (up to my knees) since our mower died as well. See it's not as bad as you think. It's just normal. *hugs you*

I've been meaning to go back and find out, but never did -- what exactly did you do to your thumb?

After reading the way things have been going down Arkansas way, it sound like you're .... me!
