My daughter, the hopefully future queen

It's a penny per vote thing that determines the Chain O' Lakes Festival queen, who gets a crown and a sash and rides in the Festival parade. You really just can't get any more small-town midwest America than that. Here's the pic and article that will accompany the pics of the other six girls in next week's paper:

Jillian Hunter, daughter of Mark Hunter of Albion and Diana Emmons of Kendallville, is a sophomore at East Noble High School. She participates in theater, and is a member of East Noble's Show Choir, Premier Edition. Her sister and aunt are both former Chain O' Lakes Festival Queens.

Jillian's hobbies include reading, writing, dancing, singing, and hanging out with her friends. Her summer plans include attending Show Choir practices, learning to drive, learning to play the guitar, and going to the beach with friends. Her can is located at Fischer Pharmacy and Home Medical, 112 N Orange Street.

Jillian of The Lilacs. Elaine of Astolat was no fairer. If I were near Albion, her can would get all my pennies.

Good luck to your daughter.

Thanks ... hopefully, if she wins I won't have to bow, or ask her assistance for an audience, or anything.

Put in a penny for me!
May. 21st, 2006 01:11 am (UTC)
I'll put in a dollar -- a hundred votes! (It's legal -- this is one election where people can vote as often as they like; the contest is also a fund raiser for the Festival.)

Can we send our pennies through PayPal?!

She's a lovely looking young lady.

I never thought of that! I think that would be better to leave it a local contest, though. Unless I find out she's only a few votes behind ... ;-)

That is sooo cute! A town even more hick than mine!
May. 21st, 2006 01:17 am (UTC)
Oh, we're proud of our hickness. There's a town just over the state line in Ohio actually called Hicksville -- you can't get more hick that that.

Good luck to Jillian - may she get lots and lots of pennies.

My sister, who won the contest several years ago, is named Penney ... I always wondered if she won by one vote.

Good luck with the pennies!!! I know it's the fashion but why do all the pretty girls want to cover up their faces with the bits of hair these days!!

*feels old*

What a pretty girl! (Pretty lilacs, too.)

D'you suppose my sisters would think I was just insane if I asked them to drive from Bremen and put some pennies in? *g* (I'd do it myself if I were there.)
May. 21st, 2006 01:21 am (UTC)
Yeah, I believe your sisters would think you were insane ... do it anyway! :-)
May. 19th, 2006 07:38 pm (UTC)
What a lovely picture!! Please put some pennies in for me. *g*
May. 21st, 2006 01:25 am (UTC)
I might not have any pennies left -- every time I turn around, all my pennies have mysteriously disappeared. Something tells me the same thing is happening to the parents of the other girls who are running, too. :-)

Good luck to Jillian!

I'll pass it on!

What a sweet girl! Best of luck to her! let us know what happens, ok?

Such a proud dad!

Don't worry, I'll keep you posted -- I'll probably end up writing a column about it, once the dust has settled.

Re: Proud Dad!!!
Ooh ... Aussie Penny's ... do you mind if I give her some American ones, and keep yours for my collection?
May. 24th, 2006 09:39 am (UTC)
Your daughter is gorgeous! I hope I'm not too late in my wishing her well in teh contest.
May. 24th, 2006 09:55 am (UTC)
Nope -- voting goes on until the end of May, and the Queen is crowned on June 7. So I'll send your wishes on!
