The "official" SYTYCW announcement

So … you think you can write?

I’m fairly sure I can, so I’ve entered Harlequin’s So You Think You Can Write (SYTYCW) contest for, you guessed it, writers. My entry is at:

http://www.soyouthinkyoucanwrite.com/manuscripts/coming-attractions/

And that’s kinda important, because here’s where you come in: The first phase, which runs from October 2nd until October 11th, involves the public voting for their favorite first chapter. Everyone can vote once per day, and at the end Harlequin/Mills & Boon editors will take the top 25 manuscripts chosen by voters, along with three wild card submissions the editors choose. Only then will the top 28 full manuscripts go on to the next phase.

This is your chance to see chapter one of my unpublished novel, Coming Attractions, along with a 100 word synopsis that took almost as long to write as the original manuscript.  So vote early and, at least in this case, vote often! Here’s the main website for the contest:

http://www.soyouthinkyoucanwrite.com/

Later in the voting period I’ll share some details about the novel’s creation, plot, and metaphysical philosophy. Or maybe just two of those.

Hey! I swung by and voted (not just 'cause you're my LJ buddy, but because I liked it!) but I just wanted to note something: unless Tupper's VW is named John, Paul, George, or Ringo, "Beetle" is misspelled. It was an interesting mental image, though!

Really? I'll correct that!

No I won't, changes can't be made now that it's submitted. I'll correct it in the main manuscript, though ...

As for voting, I'm not proud. I'll take people who like it, people who don't, people who've never read since high school ... but enough about my brother.

Heh, I know about taking what you can get. I'm getting to the begging-for-feedback stage.

Actually, I have a couple publishing-related questions for you, if you don't mind talking about your experience with your publisher. Do you mind if I PM you?

Sure, go right ahead, or e-mail me. But be warned: I don't necessarily have the answers!

You're so awesome!

When I grow up, I want to be just like you.

LOL.
I am so old, I got to walk to the building and keep dry under my umbrella, and did the same on my return trip this afternoon. The poor young'uns had to race through the bitterly cold rain, holding notebooks over their heads.

Yeah, that that somehow makes them think they look cool.

I am so old I get to stay warm instead of having to look cool.

Exactly.

In fact, as we speak I'm sitting here in nice, comfortable sweats which are in no way cool, every.
