endometriosis

Endometriosis. I'm learning a lot about it ... it's an odd, not terribly serious but painful, treatable and not fun problem that Emily has. She's asleep now, thanks the the influence of really good drugs ... so I'm off to take a nap too. I know I've got comments to reply to, but I have no brain power: Will catch up with all of you later tonight.

Ah - such a relief to have a diagnosis. Not life-threatening, but I know it can be very painful - I do hope they can treat it for her.

They're working on it; I'm just so glad to have an answer.

Poor Emily - that's a lot of discomfort. I'm glad at least that it isn't any of the truly terrifying things she may have been secretly worrying about, though.

Cosset yourselves.

Greatly uncomfortable -- but identified, and as you say that's a lot less scary.

I'm sorry to hear that but I'm glad it's not worse

Yes, I've heard that can be painful from other ladies with it. I think sometimes Doctrs prescribe The Pill to settle things down for a while. And hot baths/a hot water bottle might help ease things until painkillers kick in.

Boy, have the painkillers ever kicked in ... and you're right, the Pill is exactly what the doc is suggesting to start with.

It's nasty but not dangerous and it is controlable often by using oral contraceptives. Hope she feels better soon

Pretty much exactly the info we're getting -- thanks for the good thoughts!

A friend of mine had that and it's extremely painful, but treatable. Very glad she's got a diagnosis.

I'm finding out how common this is -- and you're very right about all of that. At the moment she's walking like a zombie, so we're watching The Walking Dead.

Painful, and costly to diagnose, but relatively benign. If you have to have problems — and I suppose everyone does — this isn’t the worst to have. I’m glad it turned out not to be more serious.

Me too -- once the surgery is healed and the treatment started, things should get a lot better.

I'm so glad to hear it wasn't something terribly serious, but I too suffered from Endometriosis and the pill helped control the pain (even the aching pain in the legs) It took a month or so, but it helped. Good luck to Emily.

Thanks -- I think it's good to know that so many other people can understand what she's going through, and give good advice from experience.
