I'm told that on Sunday, March 6, the Kendallville News-Sun newspaper will print an interview they did with me about Storm Chaser ...

Meanwhile, I put the Storm Chaser short stories all together into one document for the first time, after writing the first drafts of two more stories yesterday. I have ten stories, with about 14,500 words total. Now I need to see how the stories flow and whether they might need to be switched around, and I might put some new material in between the individual tales. Plus polishing, of course -- and settling on titles.

I might be mis-understanding your use of the word 'flow', but if they're each an individual story, surely they don't need to flow from one to another?

Anyhow good luck.

They're individual stories, but all set within the same universe: Most show various characters as their lives move toward the events of "Storm Chaser", while a few show some of the aftereffects of the book. I'm thinking of doing a little bit of tying in -- nothing major, just something that will give a sense of it all coming together, over time. It's like a series with individual episodes, but an overall arc.

Oh I knew they were within Storm Chaser universe, I just didn't get what you meant by 'flow'.

It's difficult piecing them together because the type mood and even genre of the stories varies: humor, drama, even an action story. Maybe a better term for what I was looking for is framing device, something that hooks them all together. I'm thinking of a little piece at the beginning of each, maybe a news or weather report, or a wikipedia type entry.

Or maybe a fact about storms? Destructivity etc.?

Hm, could be ... I'll keep that one in mind.

That's so cool about the anthology. I have to admit, I'm pretty impressed that you did 1st drafts of two stories in one day! (Says the world's slowest writer.)

Well, they're fairly short stories! One's about 1,000 words, and the other around 1,500. I'm used to writing my 1,000 word column on a deadline, so that probably helped.

from DM
Mark, it might take some work, but well worth it to get your short stories out there.

Absolutely, the work is totally worth it.
