Biggest fact that needs checking is WMD which resulted in hundreds of my country-men being murdered in an illegal war.

When the Republicans have a lie like that in their recent back-pocket and Palin up their as their prize poodle, the Dems need half a dozen Kennedys to catch up on the sleaziness.

Every intelligence agency in the world was convinced Saddam had WMD's, thanks in large part to his own actions in trying to block UN inspections. It doesn't held Saddam's case that he actually used WMD's in the past, both in the war with Iran and in wiping out large numbers of his own people, and that he'd been actively engaged in trying to get more. He was a mad dog who'd attacked almost every country around him, and needed to be put down before he killed even more.

"Every intelligence agency in the world was convinced Saddam had WMD's, thanks in large part to his own actions in trying to block UN inspections."

He was simply an arrogant monster who didn't bow to other nations' interference.

As for every intelligence agency in the world being convinced, I wonder how much of that convinction came from lies told by the Bush Adminstration and false evedince manufactured by the CIA.

"He was a mad dog who'd attacked almost every country around him, and needed to be put down before he killed even more."

True.

But if that's the argument you want to use, which is a different one from the one the whole WMD one, why haven't the yanks gone after Mugabe and other dictators throughout the world?

With even intelligence agencies from countries that hate the US convinced -- not to mention Isreali Intelligence, arguably better than anything the US has -- added to the plain fact that Saddam openly had and used WMD's, I doubt any lying was necessary.

Good point on Mugabe! I can't speak for the Bush administration, which may have just been wanting revenge for Saddam's attempt to have the senior Bush assassinated. The oil argument is, of course, bullshit -- Saddam was happy to sell us all the oil we wanted at a bargain, since he got all the profit.
I'll tell you why I would have targeted Saddam: Most viscious dictators stick to abusing their own people and ruining their own countries. Saddam built an army far too large for just border security, invaded two other countries, and fired missiles into two others. We don't have the resources to go in and free the people of every hotspot, but we can damn well make sure we never again let some Hitler gather up all his weak neighbors until he controls an entire region.

And the Israelis didn't have their own motivations for wanting Hussain out that could lead them to manufacturing evidence?

All true. Agree 100%.

But that's not the reason the lying quartet of Rumsfeld, Cheney, Bush, and Blair took us to war.

Those four need to have a visit to the Hauge.

Heh -- the Isrealis didn't *need* to manufacture evidence! They had years and years of Saddam thumbing his nose in the face of our wonderful do-nothing United Nations, plotting to kill other world leaders, killing his own people, and working to build his arms back up.

I'd take Bush and Rumsfeld back any day, over our present administration, despite their mistakes. Maybe not Cheney, though -- although I do like the way he deals with lawyers.
