Writer's Block: Free your mind

Do you believe society will ever truly overcome racism?

Society as a whole? Absoluely. There always will be individual morons and scumbags who judge people by the color of their skin, but look how far we've come in such a relatively short period of time. 150 years ago, almost all black people in America were slaves. 50 years ago segregation was a given.  Imagine how things might be 50 years from now?

In the end it's not more laws or regulations that will finish the job -- on the contrary, racism won't truly be overcome until it comes from within, not without. it will be when the majority become so used to seeing people as individuals that we won't *need* laws or regulations.  We've come a long way, and sometimes it's uphill  -- now we have to stay the course.

"In the end it's not more laws or regulations that will finish the job "

In fact, Politically Correct media and regulators will only cause more dissension and hard feeling between ethnic groups.

Sure ... if you tell people they *have* to do something, they'll tend to rebell against it, especially in this country. I call it the "teenager syndrome".

A major example in this county last year was the BBC having the leader of the most r-w and racist party on their flagship show. All the harping voices that promote freedom of speech when it comes to Islamist preachers were rioting outside the BBC building.

Then the asshole gets up to speak and shows in front of the entire country what an idiot he was.

Which he wouldn't have had the chance to do if the BBC had given in to the PC brigade.

Sure, we get that from the left over here. "Everyone should have the right to free speech -- except for the people I don't agree with. If they get a platform to speak, it must be shut down!"

Or, as the Muslim fundamentalists say, "We're a peaceful religion -- and if you speak out against us, we'll kill you."

As long as there are laws regulating it, it cannot end.

I have to agree with you. There is no way in this world to legislate morality or opinion, no matter what people think. Maybe one day people will just be freaking people already.

It's gotten a lot better already, although there's surely a long way to go.
