Then I got into work and discovered that my shift partner's brother passed away yesterday morning, possibly from carbon monoxide poisoning while working in a garage. R.I.P. Jeremy L. Kline; I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers:

Also, two Chicago firefighters lost their lives yesterday in a building collapse that injured fourteen other members, four of whome remained hospitalized in stable condition. Fire Commissioner Robert S. Hoff, whose father died on the same date the year I was born (at the Union Stock Yards fire), identified the deceased as firefighters Edward Stringer and Corey Ankum. Ankum, a former Chicago police officer, leaves behind two young children and a wife who is Chicago Mayor Daley's personal secretary.
Kind of puts things into perspective, doesn't it?
