I hit 50 followers at MarkRHunter on Twitter! I'm hoping to break 100 someday ... It's like the stock market, only without money.

Yay! Twitter is so saturated, though, I think it's hard for anyone to hit that first 100.

Yes, it's a very busy place, which makes it hard to connect. I like to tell people that I'll know I've made it as a novelist when the number of followers is greater than the number of people I follow -- but lately, on average, I've been following one new person for every one who follows me, so they might never catch up!

Not too much, that I know of ... Simonschuster UK started following me on twitter, much to my surprise, but so far as I know all my other new contacts are writers or sites for writers. I always figured I'd have to show good sale numbers with at least a few books before that became a factor.

you'd be surprised, nearly everyone who is following me that I'm not returning the favor at those looking to represent authors (and most don't look the least bit trustworthy)

I've heard those warnings before, naturally, but I never stopped to consider them popping up on Twitter. I'll be careful -- and remember the adage that money flows to the writer! Legitimate writers and agents can hardly find their desks under the piles of submissions, so it's hard to imagine why they'd go trolling for new writers on Twitter.

i figure the trollers are there looking for fresh blood that havent' done their due diligence when it comes to researching how to market a book

I'm way too paranoid not to do due diligence!

Oooo... you're on Twitter. Sweet. I'll go add you.

By the way, a lot of people hit thousands of followers because they follow people randomly. Which, IMHO, it just really noisy and hard to follow.

Definitely not going to happen to me. I follow some celebrities in areas of interest, but otherwise it's just friends and fellow writers. I'm having enough trouble keeping up as it is!
