Another birthday come and gone ... hope to celebrate next year with a book royalty check. :-)

Speaking of books, Emily gave me a beautifully bound edition of the complete works of Lewis Carroll, cooked a wonderful meal (pork chops, peas, corn on the cob), and even made a homemade ice cream cake with a fire truck on it. (Pictures to follow, of course.) Unfortunately, I came down with a bad case of indigestion (NOT the fault of her cooking) and got pretty sick, so I spent part of the day in bed ... just the same, she worked really hard to make it a perfect day, and I think I'll keep her. :->

As an experiment, rather than posting my column for this week I'm posting the link to my newspaper, the Albion New Era, which put it up on their website. I figure it's good practice for when I get my writer's website up and running, at which point I'd imagine the best and most efficient way of staying in touch would be to link my writing to it. Also, it will make me look very popular to my publisher.

Oh, and thanks for the virtual gifts, jaded_jamie and inkternal!

Happy birthday mate.

Thanks! I'm old enough now that every year I consider not celebrating, but it's nice to have an excuse for cake and ice cream.

Who needs an excuse?????

I can't eat it every day anymore -- I need to stay in shape for all those book tours and photo ops!

I think that's a lost battle mate.

Yeah, well, the more successful my writing career becomes, the less time I'll have for anything but writing, so I'd better get used to more salads and less ice cream.

Oh, poor Mark's tummy. :-(

I was a Nielson family a couple years ago. I made sure I watched and recorded all my favorite programs... most of which promptly got cancelled. Stupid Nielsons.

It's funny how everyone who talks about it admits to recording shows that seem to quickly get canceled; it's as if we were on the anti-Nielsons, or something.

Funny stuff. (The article - not your gastrointestinal distress.)

And Albion...real place?
Jul. 16th, 2010 06:18 am (UTC)
It sure is: That's our courthouse (well, the Noble County Courthouse) in my icon. Albion, Indiana, is one of (I believe) about 27 Albions scattered across the USA.

The Albion fire station appears briefly in the novel I just sold, "Storm Chaser", and there's a scene at the courthouse in the novel I'm trying to sell, "Coming Attractions". Another case of writing what you know!

Wonderful article! I do love your stuff, Mark.

I'm looking forward to the pictures. (So sorry about your indigestion!)

It's okay -- I survived! And I'll get the pictures up as soon as I get my computer problems sorted out.

I know what the Nielsens are! Silly family members. :P It's amazing how only the crappy shows stay in the Nielsen ratings. I mean, Big Brother, really? Does anyone still watch that besides the Nielsen families? Maybe you could apply again, if that's possible.
Jul. 16th, 2010 06:20 am (UTC)
No, I'm afraid I can't apply -- they choose households at random. I had no idea I was on the list until the notification letter arrived. Sadly, the networks more and more seem to base their programming decisions on a group of untrained monkeys, and not ones as smart as the one in your icon.

Oops! Don't call him a monkey! The Librarian tends to resent that. He might break your arms and legs off!

Or worse -- take away my borrowing privileges!
