We're in the middle of an honest to goodness wind storm here -- we've had four reports of trees falling across roadways and another of wires setting a tree on fire within the last half hour, and it's howling like a banshee. Down to 48 degrees, and there's a frost warning for tonight; looks like we haven't seen the end of the wind chill factor this spring, after all.

Hey, at least we don't have a volcano!

I have slightlyiconic to thank for that icon, which has come in handy far too often this year!

Well, you will now! ;-)

Ooh ... good point.

We've got very high winds as well, there's at least 7 inches of snow in Gaylord and Sunday night we're getting frost.

(Another thread hijacking! - You're in Gaylord? Small world! I have cousins who've lived there for 30 years or so.)

No, I'm in Metro Detroit but the local weatherman mentioned the Gaylord snow on our morning newscast.

Still a small world - I have lots of cousins in the Detroit area as well - Detroit, Rochester, Clarkston, Lake Orion, Oxford and used to have relatives in Royal Oak and Birmingham. (And I'm currently attending Wayne State University on line.)

I've been too Gaylord -- beautiful up there, when it's not freezing cold. Actually, beautiful even when it is freezing cold. The closest I ever came to Metro Detroit was a Tigers baseball game as a teen, and I have no idea if that's anywhere near close.

*weeps* Will this winter ever end?

Actually, this is more of a "typical" Michigan Spring. The last few years we've gone from Winter right into Summer without all this crazy up and down weather we used to get.

Doesn't mean it isn't driving us nuts however. There's a heavy frost forecast for tonight/early tomorrow and yesterday was "Flower Day" at Detroit's Eastern Market. I just hope all those people still have their plants in the garage and not in the ground.

I'm waiting for a couple more weeks before I buy my hanging flowers. The weather's just been too darned up and down to take the chance of them not dying from a killing frost, which I think would have happened for sure last night. Brrrrrr.

I'm still worried about whether we'll even *get* a summer this year.
May. 8th, 2010 01:11 pm (UTC)
It's chilly, overcast and getting windy here. Which sucks because I was going to do some (a tiny bit of) landscaping today. Oh well, there's always another day. Guess I'll just have to play computer games today. *g*
May. 9th, 2010 05:11 am (UTC)
Well, *maybe* there'll be another day! It's supposed to warm up here later in the week, but stay rainy.

It got so cold yesterday that I closed up all the doors and windows, and the kitten kept curling up in his fleece cave to nap. Stupid cold weather.
May. 10th, 2010 03:49 am (UTC)
I turned the thermostat back up ... I haven't had the windows open for a full day yet.

Meep! It's windy here today, but only about a force 6, and not hot, but about 10C - so yours is even colder and even windier...
May. 9th, 2010 05:11 am (UTC)
The wind and rain isn't that terribly uncommon here this time of the year, but it isn't usually combined with this much cold. Not a fun combination!

DITTO. It's pigging CHILLY here in the UK! We can has Summer, please?
May. 9th, 2010 05:06 am (UTC)
Summer would be nice -- or a more traditional late spring!
May. 9th, 2010 12:02 am (UTC)
We got it to. I've been without power most of the day because a tree fell on the power lines down the street. :(
May. 9th, 2010 05:12 am (UTC)
Most of us don't realize how much we depend on that juice till it's taken away from us. Luckily, the power outages this time around have been scattered -- but that doesn't help the people who are dong without.
