Veterans Day

"Happy Veterans Day" is not only inappropriate but doesn't come close to what we should all be feeling. I'll simply say, for the sake of those who've put themselves into harms way for the sake of freedom across the world, across the years:

Remember.

Veterans' Day sales are nice and all, but they sure do take away from the true meaning of the holiday.

I keep forgetting there are Veteran's Day sales, but you're right. A lot of people fought to keep this holiday on 11/11 for a reason, rather than have it moved to a Monday for still another three day holiday.

It's good to see my (American) lj friends posting about Veterans Day because they are the only people I know who've acknowledged the day. I think Irish (a veteran) is right - most people don't care. It's just a day off for the government employees and a regular day for the rest of us. *sigh*

Thank goodness there are still many here in America who appreciate what the day's all about, but they do seem to get drowned out. Sadly, every holiday sooner or later devolves into something totally apart from what it was originally meant for.
