epic annual fail

My head is going to explode. Specifically, my sinuses are going to explode out through my forehead, which will make for a fine piece of Halloween themed special effects. Should I have it filmed?

I'd forgotten how much my sinuses swell and ache when the weather gets cold, and the non-drowsy sinus pain med that used to work doesn't seem to be doing a thing now. Still another reason why this time of year sucks ... can I have summer back? No?

In other news, I was thinking of having a personal NaNoEdMo this year -- Yep, a whole month of editing and sending out those other stories that I need to get in the mail if they're ever to be published. All I have to do is get my house cleaning and winterizing chores done by November 1st, and I can probably have all that stuff done within three or four weeks.

What do you mean, November starts Sunday?

I'll need a new catch phrase of my own! Let's see ... "exterminate" is taken ...

I know! "Surrender and prepared to be bored!"

Oh! No! Sinus problems are not at all fun. When is the last time you checked with your pharmacist? Perhaps there's something new out that can help you.
Secondly, have you ever tried a netie pot? It looks like a tiny tea pot that you fill with salted water and you use it to flush out your sinus cavity. It's a lousy procedure that WORKS. http://www.webmd.com/allergies/sinus-pain-pressure-9/neti-pots That's just one link about them. I want to see your pain relieved.

Lastly, yes! Please do the Nanoedmo, and I promise to cheer you on. I love your stuff and want to think that there is plenty in the mail on it's way to one editor or another. The house cleaning will always be there. It never really goes anywhere, and your writing is a possible source of income. You wouldn't take a day off from work to clean would you? You are a WRITER before all else. Without submission you will be a hobbyist, rather than someone who is paid. You'll still have time for cleaning in December so the place looks fine for Christmas.

I've heard of those, but I just don't know if I could force myself to use one -- the ick factor is very high, for me. :) But I am going to check with the doctor about meds, when I have an opportunity. He was giving me a nasal spray for my allergies, but I stopped taking it because my HSA ran out of money ... this might be a good time to readjust what I'm on.

The thing about the writing is that Emily is coming in mid-December to stay for a month, and I'd really like all the major chores done and house cleaned up so we (and Jillian will be back for Christmas break) can just relax for awhile. Hopefully we'll both get some writing done during that time, but regardless of anything else I'll carve out plenty of writing time in January-March, when there's nothing decent to do outside anyway! Don't worry, I can't go for long without my writing.

Ow, ow, ow. That's so painful. My heart goes out to you and your mean sinuses.

Thanks ... I considered removing them with a carving knife, but I'll need that later for Thanksgiving ... ;-)

What do you mean, November starts Sunday?

But on the bright side, you get another hour of sleep...

Very true. Last fall I had to work that night, and so ended up getting paid 8 hours for a 9 hour shift, but this time I'm off.

Yikes!!! I hope your sinuses feel better soon. Not fun. :(

Last year they got a lot better ... in April ....
Oct. 27th, 2009 01:09 pm (UTC)
Sorry to hear about the sinus pain - nastiest thing in the world IMO!! Feel better soon!
Oct. 28th, 2009 06:06 am (UTC)
There are things that are nastier! I had strep throat once ... but thanks for the good wishes!

Yeah -- I do not want to start a new project -- I need to get off my duff and finish the current half-done-drawer-project that has languished unloved and unread for the past few years.
I was really excited about it until a series of unfortunate events stole six months of completed work from it, but I did rescue the very-early draft from the flames of the crashed computer and I can rebuild it like the six million dollar man...

I've got all sorts of ideas for new projects, but like you I've got the half-finished ones, and that should require my attention first. Sorry about your loss -- I know just how you felt! My firefighting story was saved on a floppy disk, but has to be manually reformatted because it was in -- wait for it -- DOS format!

Ugh, I feel for you. Right now, I'm taking two sinus pills a day - one before bed and one in the morning - just so I can sleep/breathe. :-(

I can't believe October is almost over! I really need to quit procrastinating and buy those new snow boots I need since I think I'm going to get a lot of use out of them this winter if the summer temps are anything to go by.
Oct. 28th, 2009 06:09 am (UTC)
There's no doubt in my mind that it's going to be a tough winter. Luckily, one advantage of being a volunteer firefighter is that I can bring my boots home with me, thus providing free snow boots. However, they've got a lot of steel inserts, and can get pretty cold without an extra pair of socks.

I could use that nanoedmo too. Do you have anything plotted out for a week from now or are you flying free at nano?
Oct. 28th, 2009 06:12 am (UTC)
Oh, I learned my lesson long ago about not having my stuff plotted out before I start writing. However, my last nano novel is still a rough draft mess that needs my attention, which is part of what I was alluding to with the "ed" comment -- I'm not going to work on anything new until I get the old stuff cleaned up.

Have you tried putting a SMALL pinch of menthol crystals into a bowl of hot water and then inhaling the steam? Towel over head to make a tent = optional!
Oct. 28th, 2009 06:12 am (UTC)
I didn't know you could even *get* menthol crystals! I'll have to give that a try.

At least I had the advantage of working last night -- if I'm going to be miserable, might as well do it there! I am feeling a bit better, though: that weather front that's been hovering across Indiana for the last three days finally started to move off, which relieved the pressure somewhat.
