submission updates

I've been getting a bit impatient about hearing back from the two publishers I submitted manuscripts to. Surely they should have responded by now?! So I went back and checked their websites. Remember, I submitted to Avalon in early June, and Whiskey Creek Press in early September:

Avalon:

"HOW SOON CAN I HEAR ABOUT MY MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION?
You should hear back from Avalon Books within 6-8 months. PLEASE NO PHONE CALLS BEFORE THAT."

Whiskey Creek Press:

"RESPONSE TO SUBMISSIONS IS WITHIN APPROXIMATELY 90 - 120 DAYS."

Which means early December before I even reach the response period for both of those publishers. Optimistically, that would mean getting very good news near the beginning of winter, when my seasonal depression is reaching its worst. Pessimistically, it would mean getting news that would make me want to stick my head in the oven, and not just for the heat. Better to be optimistic, because by then I might not be able to afford to turn on the gas.

I do see what you mean! (Although it made my head spin a bit.) It actually gave me a sense of relief.

Just keep tapping those keys, Mark. Your stuff is good...really good. If the don't accept your submissions please put them right back in the mail to another publisher...and JUST KEEP WRITING. IF you have to write about a writer with seasonal depression, please do so. There isn't anything you write that I don't find interesting.

This Live Journal experience has been fantastic for me. I don't ever have to be bored again. The people I chose as friends either write extremely well, or they have such interesting live with other gifts and talents that they give me new things to think (and write) about.

Thank you so much for suggesting this site to me 3,000 years ago. (It seems like that now.) I haven't forgotten. :D

That's right, I did suggest this to you, didn't I? Huh -- you owe me a cookie! Chocolate chip would be find. :-)

Don't worry -- there's no way I won't keep writing!

*hugs* No sticking your head in the oven. I'd cry.

If they don't want to publish your books, screw them, and send them off to another publisher. You're really REALLY good. You have to keep trying, because I want to read your stuff, darn it!

*hugs* No sticking your head in the oven. I mean it. I really would cry.

Aw -- the only way I'd stick my head into the oven would be to check on my TV dinner. :-)

Hey, there's no indication they don't want to publish my books! It's just a wait until they decide -- and if they don't take it, it's off to the next one in line.

isn't that as frustrating as hell?

I did ask the one WHEN my story would be out. Didn't get an answer but did get my check...

I have three out right now. One i just sent so not worried yet but the other two ASKED for the full manuscript and now it's nothingbut crickets. grr.

That's almost as frustrating -- I got two checks almost a year ago for stories that never did get published. At this point I'd rather get a little bit of money and see print than a lot of money as a kill fee!

The best way to look at it is that if they're keeping the manuscripts longer, that means they like them and want to study them more. Yup. Under no circumstances could it mean that we got lost on the slush pile.

yeah exactly.

I see it this way, they asked for it so i'm not on the slush. That's my story and i'm sticking to it.

wonders now if i have read your stuff. iknow i passed on the last fanfic

Keeping it off the slush pile, that's what it's all about.

I don't think you've read my fanfic; I haven't put out a lot recently due to my horrendously busy life, and you weren't on my flist yet when I was real active. You're welcome to it, of course! Let me know if you need a direct link.

Waiting for publishers to get back is a pain, well good luck anyway.

Look on the bright side, you might sell it and then it might not sell!

Yeah, that's me cheering you up.

But you're right, really -- this means it hasn't gotten lost, and I still have my shot.
