College life

As I write this Jillian's spending her first night at Ball State down in Muncie, as an official college student. It was around 90 degrees and humid as we moved her in, and there's no air conditing in her cell-like room -- it's so tiny! When we left she was figuring out where to put everything. It's 8 floors up -- thank goodness for carts and freight elevators.

Still, despite my getting only a few hours of sleep today, all in all it went very well. She won't need air conditioning for much longer anyway, and it's not like there aren't student lounges and other places for her to go if the place gets too closed in. (The campus is beautiful.) I have a feeling she and her roommate will be hanging some posters and making the place look very homey -- and it's just down the hall from the kitchenette and laundry.

Yep, she seemed happy and eager to get going on things. My youngest, my baby, is a college student.

Yep.

It sure is! She's handling it much better than I would have; I've never been much good at diving into new situations.

I remember my old dorm without air conditioning. The best thing to do was set up one fan right at the window blowing in, and another fan at the other window blowing out - to get air circulation, and them one more oscilating fan in the room to blow directly on you - especially when you sleep!

Good luck to Jillian!

The place is so small, there's only one window! There's a nice breeze when the door is open, but of course you have to worry about security in that case -- can't leave it open when you're alseep, or gone somewhere else.

However, as it happens I have some training and experience in ventilation, so I have some ideas that shouild help her out.

Mine also has flown the coop for higher education.
too. I know it is scary and bittersweet..for the parents!

Matt was very excited to be on his own at Mercyhurst, which also has a beautiful campus, and great food. He's been told that he "must be eating well". :)

So far his grades are good, I think. An update should be forthcoming. He'll be in a play called "12 Angry Jurors" , a copy of "12 Angry Men", during Halloween weekend.

Oops! The first part of my message didn't make it. Oh well, I was just saying that my son is a freshman in college now.
