Well, not that I was gone physically ... we didn't have the money to take that long trip to Hawaii to sit on the beach, sipping from a glass with a little umbrella in it. But I was mostly absent from the internet for close to three weeks, so from a cyberspace standpoint it counts.
So ... what did I miss? This is the longest I've ever gone without checking my LJ flist, and there's no way I can go back to update myself.
While my part time jobs continued, I got away from dispatch for awhile. Emily will be heading back to college soon, and not long after Jillian will be starting her freshman year at Ball State, so summer's almost over for us. We did get a little time to:
Went to Ohio for my ex-aunt's wedding, where my mother was matron of honor. This gave Emily a chance to visit Ohio for the first time; she found it flat.
Drove into Michigan just long enough for Emily to say she's been to Michigan. Lotsa woods. :-)
Visited a couple of state parks several times, for the swimming, hiking, picnicking and boating. Since an annual pass gets us into any state park in Indiana as many times as we want, it's a great buy for a low budget.
We caught up on several shows, including watching all of Dollhouse (I'd only seen the first episode). As advertised, about six episodes in Dollhouse started kicking some serious ass, and is now in my top 5 of TV shows some network suit hasn't canceled.
We went down to Muncie to visit the Ball State campus, where Jillian checked out where her classes would be. She doesn't appear to be nearly as freaked out about college as I am.
We (mostly Jillian) prepared and painted the downstairs bedroom and moved her into it. My bedroom can only be reached through the other upstairs bedroom, which she calls a "hallway".
Over July she moved out of her mom's house and into mine, and she's been doing a great deal of organizing work. The day before my vacation I had a long meeting with Jillian, my ex-wife, and her father, who's a judge and very knowledgeable about judgy things. Basically, what I used to pay in child support will soon be going toward college tuition.
We visited the Old Jail Museum here in Albion, which I'm ashamed to admit I seldom get to, and took two trips to the Indiana Beach Amusement Park.
I know I'm forgetting something ... I mean other than working on my fiction, which I got to do a little. Basically we ran out of money, leading to lots of walks around town and catching up on the TV shows. I do have some pictures that will follow later, but nothing to write home about.
So I'm back to reading my flist (except for on the upcoming weekends when I'll be taking Emily and Jillian to start their respective school years), but still won't be commenting very much. My fiancial condition dictates that I publish or perish; If I don't put other things aside and start getting my fiction into the mail, I'll have to give up on writing entirely and take another part time job. Please don't defriend me, I'll be around!
