In addition to family and girlfriend, I'm thankful for little things like having a story nominated for a fanfiction award. For instance, "A (Somewhat Less Than) Forever Love" has been nominated for best short, and "Four Friends" for best series, at the "Running With Scissors" site: http://community.livejournal.com/rwsawards/
Anyone who's tried to sell their fiction understands how few and far between personal interaction with editors and agents can be, so it's nice to hear from people who appreciate your work.
I'm also thankful for being paid for writing, even if it is non-fiction. In this case, fun non-fiction -- thanks to Emily, who stumbled across a job writing for an adult products website called EdenFantasys (http://www.edenfantasys.com/). We've each turned in our first stories, although last time I checked they hadn't been posted yet; mine is about -- wait for it -- erectile dysfunction! :-0 The editor said he was looking for someone who could approach the forums with a sense of humor, and I figured I could do that.
I'm also thankful that Emily's coming up to stay for a whole month! Sadly, I'm way behind in getting the house organized and ready for her, but I don't think she'll mind as much as I do -- the main thing is we get to spend her birthday and the holidays together. That means you won't be seeing much of me yet again, between the preparation, part time jobs, and us spending as much time together as possible, but I'll try to keep up with at least reading my flist, as usual.
Oh, I almost forgot to say how thankful I am for all my LJ friends -- for instance,
and, of course, I'm thankful for my grandkids:

That's Hunter on the left and Brayden on the right, in a picture taken by my ex-wife for their 5 month birthday. You just can't get any cuter than that!
