I was trying to get some outside stuff done before fall weather hit, but then fall weather hit. So I retreated inside to wait for warmer, drier weather (if we get any), and started work on a short story for the Writer's Digest Short Story Contest.

I've finished the second draft, and have set it aside to cool before working on revision. As is usual for me, I'm going to have to cut down on the opening some, and probably rework the ending a bit, but so far I'm fairly satisfied with it. It's a ghost story -- sort of. :-)

Meanwhile, on the day I started that story, I got some encouragement in the form of this:
