Charis has been diagnosed with preeclampsia, which is:
a condition unique to pregnancy in which a mother develops hypertension often associated with signs such as water retention and protein in the urine. The mother may have symptoms such as headache, edema and visual disturbances such as blurred vision, tunnel vision or sparkles of light in her visual field. In advanced cases, she may experience pain in the upper outer quadrant of the abdomen which signifies liver involvement.
In extreme cases, the woman may have seizures. Mothers and babies can die as a result of severe preeclampsia.
Yeah, that's encouraging. She's off work, now; She went to the hospital Saturday evening after developing a headache, but was released a short time later. Her due date is late July, but twins usually come early; all things considered, she's staying close to Parkview Hospital North and their neonatal intensive care unit.
Emily, meanwhile, seems happily adjusted to being back at her summer job in Missouri, although neither of us is thrilled with the separation. She's already managed to get bitten by a horse, and by an exotic bug that no one can identify, and she almost stepped on a rattlesnake. And she went to Wal-Mart during rush hour.
Jillian is going to be on stage in "The Wiz" this coming weekend, playing four different parts (as the actor who played The Wizard of Oz did in the 1939 movie). After two years of show choir, she's all about making quick costume changes.
I'm ... getting by. Nervously. :-)
