Hotaru Flowers

I was a little bummed last night because some comments on a website led me to believe that I'd have some very good news to announce on the writing front, and it turned out to be another writer who got the news. Nothing deliberate, mind you, and I could still get similar news later, but it was a downer to realize I'd jumped to conclusions.

Then I got into work and discovered that my shift partner's brother passed away yesterday morning, possibly from carbon monoxide poisoning while working in a garage. R.I.P. Jeremy L. Kline; I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers:!/notes/chad-kline/jeremy-l-kline/10150109735733478

Also, two Chicago firefighters lost their lives yesterday in a building collapse that injured fourteen other members, four of whome remained hospitalized in stable condition. Fire Commissioner Robert S. Hoff, whose father died on the same date the year I was born (at the Union Stock Yards fire), identified the deceased as firefighters Edward Stringer and Corey Ankum. Ankum, a former Chicago police officer, leaves behind two young children and a wife who is Chicago Mayor Daley's personal secretary.

Kind of puts things into perspective, doesn't it?
