Writer's Block: Didn't see it coming

What has been the most surprising cultural event of 2010?

Selling my first book.

Well, it was a surprising cultural event to *me*!

historical update

Holy crap.

Within days of posting about Albion history and the mysterious Fred Markey who carved his name in my garage, my LiveJournal friend angstchic  found a possible match, a person of the same name who would have been around 12 years old at the time:

https://beta.familysearch.org/s/recordDetails/show?uri=http://pilot.familysearch.org/records/trk:/fsrs/rr_295489754/p_368154429&hash=HloWXpZgU9zB10k5M56iYku8TUc%253D

It gives his home as Allen County, but that borders Noble County and it's not the most common name in the area at the time -- so it's very possible. And what 12 year old of the era didn't carry around a carving knife?

As if that wasn't enough, Angstchick also found an online version of a rare history of early Albion, which was published in 1908 by the New Era Publishing House of Albion:

http://openlibrary.org/books/OL24186818M/Popular_history_of_Noble_County_capitals_and_greater_Albion

It recounts the 1859 courthouse fire, which opens my history of the Albion Fire Department. Thanks so much for going the extra mile and finding this information!
