How I spent my Easter

Fire on Easter damaged a home near Wolf Lake, although no one was injured.

Three fire departments were needed to control the blaze at 4790 S 200 W, which was discovered by a relative at 5:39 p.m., according to the Noble County Sheriff's Department. The cause remained under investigation, but was believed to have begun in a truck parked inside an attached garage. The truck was reportedly left running, and was still turned on when firefighters gained entry to the structure.

The garage and two story wood frame home were already filled with heavy smoke when the fire was discovered, and Noble Township firefighters arrived to find the garage engulfed in flames, with fire spreading into residence. They quickly called for a full response from the Thorn Creek Fire Department in Whitley County, and a short time later called a rescue truck, water tanker and manpower from the Albion Fire Department to the scene.

Firefighters were able to stop the spread of flames further into the house, although the building and its contents were heavily damaged. The roof of the gutted garage began to cave in, endangering firefighters as they attempted to extinguish the last of the flames, but no injuries were reported. The pickup truck, along with a car also parked inside the garage, were heavily damaged.

Mutual aid fire departments cleared the scene after about two hours, while Noble Township firefighters remained to finish extinguishing the fire and investigate the cause. The Noble County EMS had a unit on standby at the fire scene, and police units assisted with traffic when the narrow county road became clogged with emergency vehicles.
