The rules are easy, just post 10 things that recently made you happy! Then tag 10 people and force them to post this meme on their LJs. Because it is good. Everyone needs a little happiness once in a while.

Here goes, in no particular order.

1. My wonderful girlfriend.
2. Having a place big enough for my daughter and her boyfriend to come to when they recently lost their home.
3. The good health of my family; our health can be precarious at times, but we're doing okay this winter.
4. new books for Christmas.
5. seeing my house start to get ordered again after being a mess for too long.
6. chocolate! got lots for Christmas
7. Getting lots of good comments about my columns.
8. record high temperatures last week. Bring on global warming -- at least in winter.
9. the way my daughter's boyfriend was able to replace my car's starter in just an hour last week.
10. getting to see my youngest daughter's new show choir routine for the first time.

That's a good list. It's good to count our blessings.

I have to just say that this boyfriend sounds an improvement on the husband :~)

Well, yeah, but that's not saying much! :-) I got a very good first impression of him, which is more than I can say about the husband ...

Great list.:-)

What happened to your daughter's house?

To make it as simple as possible, my daughter's boyfriend's mother lost her house because of a balloon payment thingy. Turns out that, while the boyfriend was paying for the house, he doesn't actually own it -- his grandfather does. The grandfather kicked them out in favor of giving the house to the mother. He gave them until the end of the month to move out, and even turned off their natural gas within days of telling them they were evicted. And *everything* in that house is natural gas powered.

Basically, I don't think much of his family right now.

That's terrible, what a rotten thing to have happen. :-(

The grandfather sounds like a real winner, I can't imagine turning everything off on someone before they've even had the chance to move
(and I'm a landlord, so this comes from someone who deals with tenants).

But at least they were lucky enough to have you to help them out and I'm sure they'll find something nicer than before. Karma usually works that way.

No, I can't imagine springing that even on someone you don't know well, let alone a relative; I can't account for it. Maybe that's the kind of thing I should keep in mind, so I can create better villains in my stories.

This isn't the only area in which I'm counting on karma to someday clean things up!

Absolutely -- it's a good thing and an important thing. And it's needed now, more than ever!
