oh, okay, fine ...

I know very little about some of the people on my friends list, while others I know relatively well. I read your journals; some of you update regularly and in detail, and some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, but you've friended me and I'd love to know more about you.

So here's a thought: Why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself? Anything at all, so the next time I see your name I can say, "Ah, there's so-and-so, and they love to...."

I'd love it if as many people as possible who have me friended would do this. Yes, even those of you who comment on my LJ all the time. Then post this in your own journal and see what gems of knowledge appear.

Okies, so my real name is Margareth. I live in Norway, work on a fishing boat, love to read/watch movies & TV/listen to music. I'm kind of anti-social at times, think cats are adorable, and my fandom is all Buffy/Joss-verse :)

You write books, get a girlfriend for christmas, and um... live in the US, right? Bah, I'm very bad at these things. When I don't have visuals to go along with the name, things get blurry.

You work on a fishing boat? Now, that's an interesting, dangerous, unusual job! (And sometimes smelly?) Have you heard of the television show "Most Dangerous Catch"?

I think Norway would be a bit too North for me; I don't get on well with cold weather. I've heard it's beautiful up there, though; maybe I'll visit during the summer, while on my international book tour. Gotta sell a book first ...

Yes, I live in Indiana, which is in the northeastern part of middle America near the Great Lakes, not far from Chicago. My picture is on one of my userpics; or is it two? If that helps with the visuals!

My first TV fandom was Scarecrow & Mrs. King.

I eat M&M's by color.

I'm a cat person, and even though the grammar and spelling makes me crazy, I like lolcats.
Dec. 22nd, 2007 05:45 am (UTC)
I remember Scarecrow & Mrs. King -- does that age us? As far as M&M's, I wouldn't have the patience to sort them like that; however, I do chew evenly on both sides when I eat -- first bite left, second right, and so on. I'd say that compares to the color sorting thing.

It seems like everyone on my flist is a cat person! The dog people are quaking in their boots.

I adore Jet Li flicks, with the exception of "Hero", which was too deep and made my head hurt. :P

I'm afraid to try driving a car (mostly because I seem to keep missing the brakes.)

And... I've done this meme before, but I think it's really neat, so I'll do it again. :)

I grew up on martial arts movies in general; mine was the "Kung Fu" era. I prefer Jackie Chan, though; I like the humor he throws in.

I guess if you have trouble finding the brakes, maybe it's for the best that you don't drive! :-)

My name's Lee. I'm a hopeless sci-fi/fantasy addict who loves to read anything he can get his hands on. I'm also a rabid fundie--I originally started this livejournal to blog politically from a not-quite-conventional-religious-right perspective. That mostly fell by the wayside a few years ago.

I'm unhappily single, mostly because of my geekiness.
Dec. 22nd, 2007 05:55 am (UTC)
I'd forgotten what fundie meant, I had to look it up again. It's nice to have you here for balance -- most of my flist are liberals, some of them pretty far to the left. One even worked for CNN!

Me, I'm moderate -- in Indiana. In most of the rest of the world it would appear that I'm conservative. More specifically, I'm hard core on crime and defense, and moderate on most social issues, but again, that's by middle America standards.

Ah, yes, I remember my unhappily single geekiness days. The reason I'm happily attached now is because I managed to find a female sci-fi/fantasy geek. The girl reads Sandman and Buffy comics; how could I pass her up? :-)

I'm that way with all candies!

Gee...um...vagueness...I never know what to say that doesn't come across as boring and mundane, lol!

Something that might not be known is that I adore a really good male soprano or countertenor voice...hence my friendship (and the fact that I maintain a website for) one from the east coast...

Anything more specific, you'll have to ask :D

Much as I love classical music, I've never been able to get into opera. I do have "Voice of an Angel"; remember that? :-) But at least I appreciate it as good music; as opposed to the other thing I never listen to, rap, which is not music at all. It's noise. Noise, I say!

Could you send me a link to the website? Just because I haven't listened to a lot of sopranos in the past doesn't mean I can't start now!

Beets. Ick.

Is there I Love Lucy fanfic? I'd imagine there would be -- there's every other kind.

I try not to get spoiled on endings, but it doesn't bother me if I am. Life's too short to get upset about anything but really important stuff, like world hunger and people who don't use their turn signal.

My neighbors had motorcycles when I was a kid; we did a lot of riding around the countryside, both on and off road. Some of it was, um, not quite legal.

Emily has informed me that I'm not allowed to get on motorcycles anymore. :-) I don't think she's exactly thrilled with the running into burning building thing, either.

To start off, my real name is Jeff.

I have been living in the Seattle area for the last couple of years now, after having spent nearly twenty in the Bay Area.

Perhaps one of the more unique things I've done was be a member of the ground crew for a blimp (a small two-seater, nothing like the size of Goodyear's) that operated out of Hayward, and even taken a ride in it. For various reasons I consider good enough, I've never told my wife that latter tidbit. :)

And despite having written a fair amount of fanfiction (all in the BtVS realm) I really, really hate writing. It's probably a good thing I don't make a living at it!
Dec. 22nd, 2007 06:14 am (UTC)
My brother's name is Jeff. In no way will I hold that against you.

That's a beautiful area; if I ever get a chance to move to a more temperate area, Seattle and the Bay area are both on my top ten list. (Hawaii's number one, though.) My former literary agent lives in the Seattle area; I won't hold that against you, either.

So, what prompted you to write the fanfiction? I think I have an idea of how you feel. Writing's an addiction for me; usually it's something I love, but sometimes it drives me crazy but I can't help doing it, anyway. The difference is that I'd happily take the bad spots, if given a chance to make a living at it. Believe me, it beats the heck out of working in a factory, bait farm, security service, grocery story, jail, or emergency dispatch center. This I know.

I had a motor-bike licence for about seven or eight years before I had a car licence. I was a member of the Women's International Motorcycle Association for ten or twelve years, or more, and the love of my life before S2C was my Z400 Kawasaki.
Dec. 22nd, 2007 06:22 am (UTC)
Now, that's interesting! In America you have to get a motorcycle endorsement to a regular driver's license, so you can't go in the order you did.

We did a lot of cycling when I was younger, but I was almost always the passenger. strangexgirl has informed me I can't ride motorcycles anymore; I think she's heard too many horror stories. She has nothing to worry about -- I try to stay away from dangerous things, these days.

I have a not so hidden guilty pleasure of loving the band Good Charlotte. I have all their albums and know almost every song. But my favorite of theirs is a song called 'Riot Girl' because it has my name in it, which is Kristina. =)

I am addicted to Sudoku.

I have a collection of dolphins back at my Mom's house because I love dolphins. Lately I've been into penguins and have started a mini collection of those. I blame Happy Feet!

I am a middle child.

I like making lists when I have things to do. It keeps me organized. =)
Dec. 22nd, 2007 06:26 am (UTC)
Why, that's not a guilty pleasure at all! I like their music; in fact, I don't worry about what "genre" of music I'm listening to, I either like it or I don't. I even like some early Britney Spears songs, back before she pushed the "slut" button once too often.

My youngest has been bugging me for a stuffed penguin -- I assume she means a *fake* stuffed penguin. Maybe she's seen Happy Face, too!

I used to make lists; but I've pretty much given up on being organized.

My child order is kind of unusual. I was the youngest, but when I was 14 my mom had my sister, and I became the middle child. I have the angst of both positions!

Hmmm,I'm a strange combination of libertarian and conservative, depending on the issue.

I love long distance train travel. I've ridden across the entire bottom portion of the continental U.S.( it took a month) and also from Florida to New England twice, along with a few short hops here and there. I'm hoping to ride across the top portion including the continental divide this summer.
Dec. 25th, 2007 07:28 am (UTC)
A combination of libertarian and conservative isn't all that unusual, here in Indiana. :-)

I love traveling, but my experiences this weekend have convinced me that, for me at least, car traveling is not longer as fun as it used to be. Since I want to someday visit all the states, maybe I should start thinking about train travel myself! Surely you'd see a lot more than you do from airplanes.

Okay! here goes....
I'm 35 years old and married.
I like to do artistic things like make handcrafted jewelry. The unicorn pendant in my icon is one of mine.
My goal this year is to enter a art show with one of my drawings in April. I don't expect to really do anything because the other artists are so very good but I think the experience will be good for me.
I love to write Xander-centric fanfiction stories.

Dec. 27th, 2007 07:25 am (UTC)
It's a beautiful pendent! Good luck on the art show, and continue to enter them -- you never know until you try, after all.

It's hard to think up something you *don't* know about me... hrm.

In the town I grew up in, we had rock fights.

I met one of the boys I dated in a mosh pit.

When I was little, I loved the Laura Ingalls Wilder books. I picked them up later in life and didn't.

I've only been thrown off a horse once, despite my job - and that wasn't even on my job, it was at someone's house.

I can start a fire with a flint rock.

I haven't been the short kid all my life - I just stopped growing after Jr.High.

(good grief, I have to go to bed, I have to be up in 3 hours!! oops!)
Dec. 28th, 2007 07:39 am (UTC)
Good grief -- rock fights! It's a good thing they weren't flint rocks, or you'd have all ended up in jail for arson. :->
