Guy Fawkes fans, history fans, V for Vendetta fans, you've got to check this out. It's the first of an 8 part story that can be found on YouTube, which attempts to recreate what would have happened if the Gunpowder plot had actually succeeded. Thanks for fascinating me with this just when I'm supposed to be writing, kazzy_cee! :-)

I watched the whole thing, which I seem to have missed when it was on TV - thanks for the link. Hammond's joy in explosions is something, isn't it?

It reminds me a lot of Mythbusters, another group that really enjoys blowing things up. I love it when someone really gets into their job!

I was sucked into it too. Hammond's innocent joy in Verty Big Explosions is a thing to behold.

I think you've seen some Top Gear? You should hunt out more - my bet is there's a lot on YouTube, most of it hilarious.

Interesting, though, that Hammond doesn't mention the lead theory about the Gunpowder Plot - that the whole thing was orchestrated by The Powers That Be to create an anti-Catholic backlash - and it worked.

Oh yes, I've seen a few episodes of Top Gear ... like Hammond and the Mythbuster boys, they're clearly enjoying themselves. Maybe I will check it out on YouTube, as I no longer have satellite.

Hammond is one of the core Top Gear team, along with James May and Jeremy Clarkson - and they all enjoy playing with Boys' Toys on the biggest possible scale.

I found the clip where they set a caravan on fire, which you said you enjoyed:

they really do sound a lot like the Mythbusters gang.

Thanks for the link! I'll show that at a fire training some day, just for fun.

That music they're playing in the background of the clip -- that's from the movie "Backdraft", about firefighters! How appropriate.

You can watch it when you get up here, babe. In fact, I've only seen part 1; we'll watch the rest together.
