I've been writing for many years, but I'm on Live Journal, specifically, because of fanfiction. After the final episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", my daughter and I were both dissatisfied, because we wanted to know what the heck happened next to all those characters gathered around a big hole in the ground. She convinced me to write that next story, and I did, then spent several weeks looking for a place to post it ... because, after all, what's the point of writing a story if people don't read it? I'd already known fanfiction existed, but it wasn't until later that I realized just how pervasive it was.

So I ended up at www.fanfiction.net, where you'll find me under the username Ozma914. But not just with one story ... with 11. Fanfiction, you see, is highly addictive -- nobody bothered to warn me about that part. Having my fiction read and reviewed is even more addictive, so I landed here partially in an attempt to find more readers, who will hopefully buy my published novels someday.

But in the meantime, writing stories about one's favorite characters is lots of fun, even if it doesn't get me published, and who knows? Maybe Joss Whedon will stumble across my almost novel-length "Where Do We Go From Here", and turn it into a Buffy novelization. But I doubt it.

For those of you who do decide to check my stories out, they're all set in my own personal Buffy universe, which means they lead chronologically from one to the next (except for the odd "Xander's Walk") It's not necessary to read the first in order to understand the rest, but it might be helpful.

'cause some people do that
Careful -- everyone will start thinking I invented you to blow my own horn. I didn't, did I?

Funny, I was thinking the same thing about me ... :-) But since I've been on the internet, I've discovered I'm not as depraved as I thought I was.

Why don't you post your stories here as well as on Fanfiction.net? You can then put them into memories and start building a whole new audience. It takes a little while to grow but people will find you. This also saves your stories in another place for those times when Fanfiction.net goes down and if you ever want to add graphics you can. One of the things that often happens on LJ is that these wonderful artists start offering you art for your stories!

I would recommend joining a community like Open On Sunday. This is a challenge drabble community and there are a boatload of wonderful writers here. The rules are simple, you can write a few drabbles and read a few. Feedback is usually kept short, so you can dip in here and there when you can (the actual drabble posting starts on Sunday and ends on Tuesday but you can give feedback at anytime). This means you do a lot with 5 minutes here and 15 minutes there and it is a great way to introduce yourself to the LJ community as a whole. All Buffy/Angel characters are accepted and there are no wars here. Joining is done by clicking on 'click here' at the url below:

The rules are on the same page.

Membership requires nothing of you--but opens the doorway to a awful lot of contacts.

Of course, you know drabbles can be addictive but I know you are a master of self-control!

And in case you are wondering, I have no connection with the site other than being a member and having met 75% of my current flist there.

technically incompatent
I do want to post my stories here, but I have to find the time to work the technical issues through in my mind ... I know they're not difficult, but other than typing I have very little real talent on the computer. It is in my plans, though!

Re: technically incompatent
Cut n' paste actually works pretty well. You can do some fancy stuff but you don't have too unless you are masochistically inclined.

Re: technically incompatent
There's masochistic, and then there's a non-technical person trying to get technical! When I'm on my feet, I'll stick to the cut and paste -- I just need some time figuring out how to mark them, how to keep them together, etc ... about all I've figured out so far beyond a basic posting is how to reply. Anyway, I was thinking of starting with "Where Do We Go From Here" -- not only because it's my first Buffy fanfic, but because I put a whole bunch of work into it, I've very proud of the story, and I'd like lots of people to read it. Which could be masochistic, if it's not any good.

Re: but ... why?
I'm a poet,
I don't know it,
My feet show it---They're longfellows.

My father used to regale me with that ditty when I was a child.
I've been known to give feedback in the form of poetry and I've done a few raunchy Spike & Angelus parodies based off of Lewis Carroll's poems. It seemed like a good idea at the time?

Most of my flist refers to me as MFSI.

Re: but ... why?
I've never heard that entire ditty -- but now I have, something else I have to thank you for. :-)
