I was reading in elsaf's recent post, according to Amnesty International, one in three Native American is at risk for sexual violence (http://web.amnesty.org/library/Index/ENGAMR510352007). A battered women's shelter on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, Pretty Bird Woman House (http://prettybirdwomanhouse.chipin.com/pretty-bird-woman-house) (named after the founder's sister, who was raped and murdered in 2001) is in imminent danger of going under, due to loss of its funding. It will be forced to close in May if new resources can’t be found. Please contribute what you can.
This is a topic that hits close to home for me. As some of my f-list knows, my stepdaughter is native and struggling with chemical issues and homelessness, and I worry to death about her.
I'm going to post this not friends-locked, because I want the widest possible exposure for this. Please repost in your own journals if you cannot help personally.
