Hm ... I think you're supposed to answer these questions about yourself, aren't you? Or did I do it wrong? In any case, I love ramen noodles!

Actually, you were scarily accurate -- I think you even did a better job at some of these questions than I did myself.

I didn't decide I was destined to be a writer until I was about fourteen. Before that, I wanted to be an astronaut. And for awhile after that, I just wanted to write about astronauts. :-)

I think you're supposed to answer these questions about yourself, aren't you?

I admit, it's very confusing - but where'd be the fun in simply answering the questions about myself? I thought that trying to guess the answers *you* gave is more entertaining *g*

hee! I saw your answers and thought, I was really pretty good at guessing some things :-D

Yeah, when I looked back on it you seriously did a better job answering some of the questions than I did! I don't think I took the list seriously enough.

Re: Needed a distraction, thanks...
Hm. Being able to make money magically appear pretty much trumps all the other talents ...

And stupid people covers all the pet peeves, too.

My oldest just told me tonight that she's being sent to a college course to be a pharmacy tech, so I guess she's going to be hitting some of those textbooks pretty soon, too!

Well, at least you succeeded in one ambition: to fall in love with a hopeless romantic.

When I get rich, we'll go out and get those teeth fixed for you, and then you'll have nothing to change. Except for biting your fingernails. :-)

So, tell me about the new person in your life!

new person
Oh, it's an internet relationship (hardly surprising) that started a little over three months ago. She's way, way, WAY younger than me (so young that I must hasten to point out that she's legal). That's why I haven't been shouting it from the rooftops; I'm not ashamed of it, but I am concerned about how people will react. She lives about an eleven hour drive from me (and from you, for that matter).

We met through fanfiction.net (again, of course), and initially shared a mutual interest in writing and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Long talks became longer talks and, in the fashion of such things, an unexpected but welcome attraction grew. If you want to know anything else about her .... her post is right above yours!

Re: new person
Before dating balior I was dating someone who was 19 years older than me. So, it's not as huge a deal as one might think these days. :)

Re: new person
Well, Strangexgirl is ... let's see ... whoa. 25 years differt ... that might be a record, at least in modern times. I don't think it should be a big deal. It's about emotional maturity, after all, and everyone knows men mature much later than women, if at all. (On a related subject, I've learned James Marsters was dating a woman of about the same age difference.)

Re: new person
No big deal here. The biggest age difference I've ever come across is my sister (NOT Char) and her husband. They're 30+ years difference in age but they're a great couple.

Re: new person
No kidding? I'll have to pass that on to strangexgirl. She's not bothered by the age difference, but she hasn't told her mother yet and is worried about how she'll react. As for me, I'm just non-confrontational by nature, so I've put off telling people just so I don't get a lecture about it.

Re: new person
Every parent is different. My mother knew I was dating the older man and knew how much older he was and she was TOTALLY COOL with it. (just a definition on my adoptive mother - she grew up during the Depression so she's VERY set in her ways so I was SHOCKED that she was so open-minded)

Maybe let her parents meet you and discover who you are...and let things evolve from there?

Re: new person
Emily's been avoiding telling her mother because they're in the midst of some personal crisis (not directly involving Emily), and she doesn't want to stress her mom out any more than she already is.

Several years ago my girlfriend at the time, who's black, moved from New York to live with me, and I was just as shocked as what you were to discover how open minded people could be -- including people I never would have expected it from. She was welcomed with open arms. So I'm probably overthinking the whole thing.

What exactly was the "filling incident", and what does it have to do with gum? It oddly sounds like something out of "Gilmore Girls". (Best TV show ever! Besides BtVS, of course.)

the filling incident
Yes, GG is great, and I could definitely see my little misadventure on that show. I have an outline ready for a Buffy/GG crossover, if I ever get around to it.

Put very simply, I was chewing gum when I felt something solid inside that gum -- the solid something being a big honkin' tooth filling. The background is that I grew up on well water (no chlorine) and also had an intolerance to Novocaine; when I went in for the inevitable cavity work, the dentist refused to believe I wasn't numb, and thought I was just being a "baby". I guess that pretty much qualifies under "horror story". The result of my squirming and screaming was lousy fillings that tended to crumble apart and fall out, until I met my current, excellent dentist who takes care of me.

As you can imagine, I have a phobia about tooth problems, so after losing a filling that way I haven't touched gum.

Re: the filling incident
Current fillings are much different (and probably better-made) than the ones from the "good old days". I'm sure the filling you have now wouldn't fall out while chewing gum. Mine haven't, and I chew gum a lot!

Re: the filling incident
Oh, no, I'm not worried about the new fillings -- Doc Hayes does a wonderful job. But with my dental phobia, I just get squicked out by the idea of it happening again ... besides, I still do have some of the old fillings, and would just as soon not replace them.
